First time?

Dog walks with new people, alone

  • Shelter volunteer walking. Many animal shelters let members of the public walk shelter dogs. Most ask you to register first and may set an age limit or an induction; the card quotes what the organiser's page says. You do not need your own dog.
  • Group walks and clubs. Some clubs and city events invite new people to walk together. Check the page for the meeting point, the day and whether you should bring your own dog.
  • Rules differ. Leash rules, dog-park hours, vaccination and registration requirements differ by city and organiser. Follow the organiser's page, not this summary.
  • Be kind to the dog. Ask before petting, follow the handler's instructions, and keep your own dog on a lead where required.

How it works

Walk dogs with new people: how it works

  1. Pick a programme or club below and open the official page; check who can join, the day and any registration step.
  2. Register or turn up as the page says.
  3. Come alone: volunteer programmes and open group walks are made for people who arrive on their own.
  4. Meet people in Meet & Mint before or after, and plan your next walk together.

Questions people ask

Can I walk dogs without owning one?

Yes, in some places: 10 of the 12 listings are animal-shelter volunteer dog-walking programmes whose own pages say members of the public can take part. Each card quotes the page and shows who can join, as stated.

Can I join a group dog walk as a newcomer?

2 listings are municipal events, clubs or group walks whose own pages say new people are welcome. Check the card for the day, the meeting point and whether you should bring a dog.

Do I need to register first?

Often yes, especially for shelter programmes. Registration, age limits and induction are stated on each organiser's page and repeated on the card only where the page says so.

How current are these listings?

Each card shows the date we checked it (2026-10-20 for the latest) and quotes the sentence from the organiser's own page that supports it. Programmes change, so confirm on the official page.

Is anything missing in my city?

Probably: we only list official organiser or city pages, never personal or social-media pages, and we read each page by hand. Cities with a single listing are shown on this page; the rest have their own page.
