Book clubs and reading nights, come alone, bring a book.

Reading is the one hobby you can do in a room full of strangers without having to perform. Book clubs, poetry evenings, author talks and silent reading meet-ups — picked from city open data, all easy to walk into on your own.

New to it?

What is a silent reading party?

Everyone brings their own book, sits together in a café, bar or library, and reads quietly for about an hour. Afterwards there is a short, optional chat about what you are reading. It is the gentlest way to be around people: you share a room and a ritual before you share a word.

  1. Bring any book. No assigned title, no homework, e-readers welcome.
  2. Silence means silence. Phones away for the reading hour; order before it starts.
  3. Talk is optional. Stay for the chat or slip out — nobody minds either way.

Saturday 31 Oct1 event

Nothing near you?

Host a silent reading night in one minute

Create a free invite, share the link, and let other readers find you. The whole host kit:

  1. 60 minutes silent — everyone reads their own book.
  2. 15 minutes talk — one sentence each on what you are reading.
  3. Phones away for the reading hour.
  4. Any book — no assigned title, e-readers fine.
  5. Finish at a café for whoever wants to stay.

How it works

Three small moves for a first reading night alone

  1. Pick an event with a host — a book club or author talk gives you a topic and someone who starts the conversation. Many are at the library, free.
  2. Get ten phrases in the local language for that evening with Phrases for tonight.
  3. Open Meet & Mint to see who else is going and meet at the door.

Questions people ask

What is a silent reading party?

A meet-up where everyone brings their own book and reads quietly together for about an hour, then talks for a few minutes if they want to. There is no assigned book and no homework, so you can come alone and leave whenever you like.

Can I join a book club alone?

Yes, almost everyone does. Public book clubs, poetry readings and author talks are built for strangers: the host opens the conversation, and having read the book is often optional. Arrive early and say it is your first time.

How do I host a silent reading night?

Create a free invite on party.comealone.app with a café or library as the place, set 60 minutes of silent reading and 15 minutes of talk, ask people to put phones away and bring any book, and finish at a café.
