Thanksgiving alone in Europe, without eating alone.

Ways to spend 26 November with people when you are an American abroad or just curious: dinners we could verify, the NFL games in European time, and what to do where nothing is announced yet.

Ways in

Five ways to not spend it alone

  1. Friendsgiving. A potluck with other people far from home: everyone brings one dish, you supply a table. Our sister pages cover it: Friendsgiving on Come Alone Party ↗ and Thanksgiving abroad on Newcomer Kit ↗.
  2. American church and club dinners. American churches abroad and US expat clubs often hold an open Thanksgiving dinner or service, usually on the Thursday or the nearest weekend. Dates and ticket windows are announced a few weeks ahead, and some sell out. The verified 2026 examples are in the city sections below.
  3. A sports bar for the NFL games. Many bars abroad show the Thanksgiving games, but the late kickoff means you will be out past midnight in Europe. Check the bar’s own page or call first.
  4. Volunteering. Thanksgiving is about giving thanks as well as food. Local food banks, soup kitchens and charities often welcome extra hands before the holiday season. Search your city’s volunteering listings and ask the organisation directly; we do not list specific shifts we have not verified.
  5. Host a small one yourself. A turkey crown or chicken, three sides and four guests is enough. Invite coworkers, neighbours or people from a local meetup. Local butchers often need turkey orders weeks ahead.

We list only events with a published 2026 announcement, and we link the source for each. Prices and sitting times can change, so confirm on the organiser’s page.

Watch the games

NFL Thanksgiving games, in European time

Three games on Thursday 26 November 2026, all announced in US Eastern Time (Fox Sports ↗, ESPN ↗, NFL.com ↗). On that date the US is on standard time, so London, Dublin and Lisbon are 5 hours ahead of Eastern and Berlin, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona and Amsterdam are 6 hours ahead. The late game kicks off after midnight on Friday 27 November in Europe.

Also in the same week (Fox Sports): Packers at Rams (Thanksgiving Eve), 8 PM ET = 01:00 (Thu 26 Nov) GMT / 02:00 (Thu 26 Nov) CET on Netflix; Broncos at Steelers (Friday), 3 PM ET = 20:00 GMT / 21:00 CET on Prime Video. The schedule is subject to change, so re-check closer to the date. European broadcasters differ: confirm which service or bar shows each game. We have not verified any bar’s 2026 screening, so none is listed. Ask a bar directly, or look for one that advertises NFL Sunday or Thursday games.

Marguerite Duras, thirty years on: a performance at Saint-Simon

Bibliothèque Saint-Simon

On Thursday 26 November 2026 from 19:00 the Saint-Simon library, housed in the town hall of the 7th arrondissement in Paris, marks thirty years since the death of Marguerite Duras with a staged reading. The French listing says the piece was born from two Duras texts, Écrire and La Vie matérielle, extracts from her interviews and her posthumous recipe book, La cuisine de Marguerite. The actress Diana Sakalauskaité takes the I of Duras, blurring the line between narration and reality, in a show the organisers describe as both thought-provoking and funny. Entry is free and booking is advised. The library is accessible for people with reduced mobility. A short literary performance in a town-hall courtyard is a gentle evening to attend alone: you sit, you listen and you can leave in your own time. «Marguerite Duras : 30 ans déjà (1914-1996)» Starts 19:00, ends about 21:00. The Alhambra as an architecture lab: a round table at the IMA

Institut du monde arabe

On Thursday 26 November 2026 at 19:00 the Arab World Institute in Paris holds a round table in the library on level one, titled the Alhambra as a laboratory of ideas for tomorrow's architecture. The French listing says it is part of a cycle of talks echoing the exhibition The Secrets of the Alhambra, devoted to the history of Al-Andalus, its figures and its legacies. It describes the Alhambra as admired for its emblematic architecture and as the trace of a Mediterranean-wide circulation of knowledge, techniques and ways of laying out space. The questions are how these heritages were transmitted, transformed and adapted, and how they still feed thinking about how we build, inhabit and imagine the city. Entry is free, with booking advised. An hour-long talk beside the Seine is an easy plan alone, and you can visit the exhibition on the same trip. «L’Alhambra, laboratoire d’idées pour l’architecture de demain» Starts 19:00, ends about 20:00. Meet the authors of «Le Cabaret Voltaire» graphic novel, Forney, Paris

Bibliothèque Forney

In just over a hundred days in 1916 in Zurich, a band of artists took over the Cabaret Voltaire and set fire to the old world's codes, giving birth to Dada. The Forney library, a Paris arts library, welcomes scriptwriter José-Louis Bocquet and illustrator and colourist Kent, who tell this little-known episode of art history in a noted graphic novel. The evening shows how a comic book is made: the search for historical sources, the authors' inspirations, the work of turning words and concepts into pictures, with oral exchanges, projections of the final pages and a look at the preparatory drawings. Thursday evening, free; reservation is required through the library's online booking page. «Le Cabaret Voltaire» Starts 19:30, ends about 21:00. Cabaret Bad Biches show, Jacqueline de Romilly library, Paris

Bibliothèque Jacqueline de Romilly

On Friday 27 November the Bibliothèque Jacqueline de Romilly, at 16 avenue de la Porte Montmartre in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, hosts a cabaret show for adults as part of the Monte le son festival. The Bad Biches are described as a family of creatures who roam the nights of France and offer a new show every evening in the cabaret tradition. They explore French chanson, the adrenaline of R&B, the strength of opera, Italian drama and the bite of punk, and drag their audience through their stories with a distinctive impertinence. The listing jokes that the does are visiting the library because names with a particle sound chic, and asks whether they will make you laugh or cry. It ties the evening to the Cézanne et nous exhibition at the Grand Palais, open from 23 September 2026 to 17 January 2027, and to a new book from Citadelles et Mazenod that traces his influence from Pissarro to Peter Doig.
