Five tips for watching alone
- Arrive early. A seat at the bar or a shared table near the screen beats a corner booth.
- Ask a sport question, not a personal one. “Who are you backing?” or “What do you make of the lineup?” works almost everywhere.
- Pick the right kind of event. Race days and tennis are calmer; derbies and finals are loud and full.
- Check the venue shows it. Call or look at the bar’s page before you go; not every bar shows every match.
- Set your own exit. Stay for one half or one drink, and leave when you like.
