Questions people ask
Is it textilfrei (textile-free, nude)?
It depends on the country and the venue. German, Austrian and many Dutch saunas are often textile-free, while UK and Nordic public saunas often expect swimwear. Of 119 venues here, 8 state nude use, 15 state swimwear, 3 state mixed days and 93 do not say, so always read the venue page.
Can I go to a sauna alone?
Yes. Sauna is a quiet, solo-friendly activity and social sessions, aufguss rounds and cold-plunge clubs are made for people who arrive without a group. Come alone, follow the house rules and say hello if you feel like it.
What should I bring?
A large towel to sit on, flip-flops, a water bottle and swimwear if the venue requires it. Some venues rent towels, robes or felt hats; check the official page. Leave valuables and phones in the locker.
Is it sober? Is alcohol allowed?
Sauna sessions are normally alcohol-free during the heat, because alcohol and heat do not mix. Only 8 of 119 pages here explicitly say alcohol-free, so a bar or drinks after the session may exist; check the venue page.
Are there women-only sessions?
Some venues run women-only or gender-specific sessions. 44 of 119 venues here list one; it is shown as a badge on the card, exactly as the venue states it.
How current are these listings?
Each card shows the date we checked it. 1 of 119 rows were seen only in search results because the venue page was unreachable; they are labelled unconfirmed, so verify on the venue site before travelling.
