How it works

Three small moves for a first library night

  1. Pick a program with a host — a book club, talk or language café gives you a reason to speak and a person who starts the conversation.
  2. Get ten phrases in the local language for that evening with Phrases for tonight.
  3. Open Meet & Mint to see who else is going and meet at the door. Want your own? See book clubs and silent reading nights or create a free invite.

Questions people ask

Are library events free?

Almost always. Book clubs, talks, language cafés, workshops and film screenings at public libraries are free and most need no booking; a few workshops cap places, which the official page says. You usually do not need a library card to attend an event.

Is it okay to go to a library event alone?

Yes, it is one of the easiest places to go alone. Most people at a library talk or book club came on their own, there is a host who opens the conversation, and nobody asks why you are there. Arrive five minutes early and sit near the front.

How do I find library events in my city?

Pick your city from the list on this page: we collect library programs from city open data in 73 cities and refresh them with each batch. Your local library branch page has the full programme, including events we have not picked up.
