Documentary screening, Hegoalde Library, Vitoria-Gasteiz

Biblioteca del Centro Cívico Hegoalde

The library of the Hegoalde civic centre in Vitoria-Gasteiz screens a documentary about two women who travel to a remote valley in Chile. According to the listing, they arrive full of fear: of hard rock, of endless rain, of aching bodies and of hormones that scramble everything. Together, by insisting, the fear slowly loosens. The session is led by Maite Zumarraga and Idoia Rubial, and the film is in Basque with Spanish subtitles. Entry is free until the room is full, so it is best to arrive a little before the start. The screening takes place on Thursday evening from 18:30 to 20:00. A mountain-adventure film in a neighbourhood library is an easy way to spend an evening alone and to chat afterwards with the other people who came. «Documental: "Las Norbet Guan. Cochamo style"» Starts 18:30, ends about 20:00. Source: Kulturklik — Basque Government / Open Data Euskadi (CC BY 4.0).

Guided Visit to the Historic Círculo Vitoriano Club

Círculo Vitoriano

A rare look inside the Círculo Vitoriano, a private society whose rooms are normally reserved for members: the assembly hall, boardroom, library, reading room, card room and txoko. It is free but you must register in advance (until 2 December) through the city's open citizens' school. Small guided groups make it easy to chat with fellow visitors.

New in Vitoria-Gasteiz?

How to use the library as a newcomer

  1. Get a card — it is usually free. Bring photo ID and a proof of address (rental contract, utility bill). Rules differ per library, so check the branch page first.
  2. Events rarely need a card. Talks, book clubs and language cafés are open to everyone; just walk in a few minutes early.
  3. Use it as your base. Free wifi, a quiet desk, notice boards with local groups, and often newspapers and courses in several languages.
  4. Go back to the same program. The second visit is when people remember your name.
