Queer and Jewish in the «Third Reich»: talks evening, Mitte Museum

Mitte Museum

An evening of four talks and a conversation at the Mitte Museum in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen about Jewish-queer life stories. Holocaust research has usually placed persecuted queer people in one category and Jewish victims in another; this event presents lives that were both, from the painter Gertrude Sandmann, who survived in Berlin, to the realities of gay and lesbian Jews in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Speakers include Paige Harouse and Hani Esther Indictor Portner, who talks about Karl M. Baer, the first trans man known to have had gender-affirming surgery. The museum lists admission as free. A second evening follows on 5 November. The talks are in German. «Queer und jüdisch im "Dritten Reich" und darüber hinaus: Vier Vorträge und ein Gespräch» Starts 18:00, ends about 21:00. She talks with Elisabeth R. Hager about the role of Berlin in her work. In the PopUp hall of the Amerika-Gedenkbibliothek on a Friday evening; listed as free in the Berlin culture data, and the page has a contact address for questions. «Berlin in Books | Nell Zink» Starts 18:30, ends about 20:30. Discussion Experiment: what must I own to be happy? Schöneberg library

Mittelpunktbibliothek Schöneberg (Theodor-Heuss-Bibliothek)

An evening of conversation in the Schöneberg library on one question: what do we need to own in order to feel safe and happy, and what could we do without? The format is a discussion experiment, which means experimental moderation techniques and a few special ground rules that slow the conversation down and make it more focused and relaxed. You do not need to prepare, hold a strong opinion or be an extrovert, and it is fine to just listen; apart from a short round of names nobody is made to speak, though there may be short small-group phases. Free, registration on the organiser's page. In German. «Das Diskussions-Experiment zu Gast in der Bibliothek Schöneberg» Starts 17:00, ends about 19:00. Mephisto with live music at the Kulturstall, Schloss Britz, Berlin

Gutshof Schloss Britz — Kulturstall

On Saturday 7 November 2026 at 19:00 the Kulturstall on the Gutshof Schloss Britz estate in southern Berlin hosts the Neues Globe Theater Potsdam in Mephisto, a stage production with live music after Klaus Mann's novel. The adaptation by Kai Frederic Schrickel follows the actor Hendrik Höfgen through the glittering, increasingly dark Berlin of the 1920s and 1930s, with cabaret elements and a master of ceremonies guiding the evening like a revue, a dance on the volcano between zest for life, artistic ambition and political threat. The performance runs two and a half hours plus an interval, until about 21:30. Admission is listed at 25 euros, reduced 16 euros. A theatre evening with live music in a rural-style estate barn is easy to enjoy alone: the interval is a natural moment to chat with neighbours and the story gives everyone plenty to talk about on the way to the bus. «Mephisto | Neues Globe Theater» Starts 19:00, ends about 21:30.
