Burlesque cabaret by the Burlesque Klub, Carré Sam, Boulogne-sur-Mer

Carré Sam

On Friday 5 March Carré Sam in Boulogne-sur-Mer stages Le Cabaret burlesque by the Burlesque Klub, a show billed as glamorous, extravagant and funny, with openly feminist leanings. Led by Valentina del Peals, the troupe of performers presents a string of numbers that each differ from the last, mixing humour and poetry, sometimes kitsch and often sensual, while casting a sharp eye on society and the place of women in it. The listing is for audiences aged 16 and over, with seated places and a bar and light food available. Tickets are 14 euros at the full price, 12 euros reduced and 10 euros with the venue card, sold online and at the Théâtre Monsigny box office. Super 8: live foley and piano cine-concert plus apéritif, Boulogne

Carré Sam

On Thursday 1 April 2027 at 19:00 the Carré Sam, on place d'Argentine in Boulogne-sur-Mer, presents Super 8 by the Cie des Gobe-sons, billed as an apéro-spectacle. It is not a usual cine-concert: on stage a musician at the piano and on small instruments sits beside a professional film foley artist, surrounded by a heap of objects and odd materials used to make every sound live. Together they give voice to the characters and objects of a series of short silent films, each more elaborate than the last, ending with the Buster Keaton classic One Week. Expect slapstick, saloon brawls, romance and mix-ups in a jazzy, funny mood. Tickets cost 6 euros, or 5 euros reduced, and an apéritif is offered after the show, which is the easiest moment to chat with other spectators. The show is open to all from age six, so the room is mixed and friendly. «SUPER 8 - Cie des Gobe-sons» Starts 19:00, ends about 20:30. Source: OpenAgenda — Carré Sam (open data).

Flaubert’s letters as a musical reading, Théâtre Monsigny, Boulogne

Théâtre Monsigny

On Friday 2 April 2027 at 19:00 the Théâtre Monsigny, on rue Monsigny in Boulogne-sur-Mer, hosts Correspondances de Flaubert, an evening of two musical readings by Hugo Mallon and the Cie l'Éventuel Hérisson Bleu. Flaubert's correspondence is often seen as a work in itself, a workshop where he tested his ideas. The first reading follows the boy Gustave writing to his best friend Ernest Chevalier between the ages of eight and thirty. The second covers 1851 to 1856, when he wrote Madame Bovary and confided the struggle to his muse Louise Colet. Tickets cost 5 euros, seating is unreserved, and the show is recommended from age twelve. The theatre bar opens one hour before and stays open one hour after, with food from Popote, so it is easy to arrive early, sit with a drink and talk books with other readers after the reading. «CORRESPONDANCES DE FLAUBERT - Hugo Mallon / Cie l’Éventuel Hérisson Bleu Gustave Flaubert» Starts 19:00, ends about 21:00. Vinyl listening session, Monsigny Theatre, Boulogne-sur-Mer

Théâtre Monsigny

On Friday 16 April the foyer of the Théâtre Monsigny in Boulogne-sur-Mer hosts the second Session d'écoute, a talk and DJ set devoted to the vinyl record. The evening traces the history of dance music and club culture from the 1970s, showing how the disc changed the way music was produced, broadcast and lived, along with new habits of listening, socialising and partying. Guided by Pierre Vanson, listeners hear a selection of tracks and extracts from emblematic albums, from the explosion of disco to the electronic experiments that gave birth to house and then techno, and learn about the artists, venues and innovations involved. Seating is free and unreserved, and entry is free with a booking by telephone. The listing is in French, adds that a bar and aperitif boards are available on site, and suggests ages ten and over. It starts at 19:00 and ends about 21:00. «SESSION D’ÉCOUTE #2 - Rencontre autour du vinyle avec Vanson» Starts 19:00, ends about 21:00. Source: OpenAgenda — Théâtre Monsigny (open data).

First time?

How to join a book club alone

  1. Check the book, then relax. Many groups welcome people who have not finished it — the official page says if reading ahead matters.
  2. Arrive five minutes early and tell the host it is your first time; they will introduce you.
  3. Say one thing — a line you liked or a question. That is enough for a first evening.
  4. Nothing that suits you? Host a silent reading night: 60 minutes silent, 15 minutes talk, phones away, any book, finish at a café.
