Free lecture on the Valladolid Controversy, León library
On Thursday 5 November 2026 at 18:30 the public library of León, on Calle Santa Nonia, hosts the third and last lecture in a short series on the Valladolid Controversy, given by Óscar Ramos. In August 1550, by order of Charles V, the conquests in America were paused so that scholars at the College of San Gregorio in Valladolid could debate whether making war on indigenous peoples to convert them was lawful. The listing explains the two opposing positions, those of the humanist Juan Ginés de Sepúlveda and the Dominican friar Bartolomé de las Casas, and says this final session covers the outcome and later consequences. Admission is listed as free. A history lecture in a library is a good fit for a solo visitor, since the format is simple: sit, listen and stay for questions. «La Controversia de Valladolid: 3ª parte, desenlace final y consecuencias posteriores» Starts 18:30, ends about 19:30.
