Bibliothèque Renaud-Barrault

The «papoterie créative» of the Renaud-Barrault library in Avignon is a chatty craft session where everyone tries a new technique and goes home with their piece. On Halloween day the theme is Mexico's Día de los Muertos: you make ex-voto hearts, the bright tin-and-paper offerings of Mexican folk art. Free, from age 12, with registration by phone or through the library. «La papoterie créative» Starts 15:00, ends about 17:00. Source: OpenAgenda — Avignon Bibliothèques (open data).

Crime novelist Johana Gustawsson at Ceccano library, Avignon

Bibliothèque Ceccano

The Ceccano library in Avignon offers a privileged meeting with the crime writer Johana Gustawsson, who is a guest of the 2026 Polar Festival in neighbouring Villeneuve lez Avignon. She was born in Marseille, trained in political science and worked as a journalist for French television and press before turning to thrillers and historical crime novels such as «L'île de Yule». Three of her novels, «Block 46», «Mör» and «Sång», feature the investigators Emily Roy and Alexis Castells, and she comes to the festival for her latest novel, published in 2026 by Calmann-Lévy. The meeting is free but you need to register, through the library's contact page or by phone, and it is open to ages 16 and over. It is held in French on a Friday evening, from 18:30 to 19:30. «Rencontre avec Johana Gustawson, auteur de polars» Starts 18:30, ends about 19:30. Felt and bead craft workshop, Champfleury library, Avignon

Bibliothèque Champfleury

On a Wednesday morning the Champfleury library in Avignon holds a small creative workshop under the name «La papoterie créative». The theme this time is a little bead-decorated charm, called a gris-gris in French, and participants make small felt objects trimmed with pretty beads, ribbons and other delicate details. The city's libraries file it as a creative workshop for all audiences, with a minimum age of 16 in the listing. Admission is free, but you must register beforehand, using the contact page or the telephone number that the library network gives in the listing. The session starts at 09:45 and the library says nothing about timing, so we have assumed it runs until 11:00. Everything is in French, and a hands-on morning around one table is an easy way to meet other people from the neighbourhood while you make something to take home. «La papoterie créative» Starts 09:45, ends about 11:00.
