All Saints' Eve ghost walk with Helsinki City Museum

Helsinki City Museum (start; ends at Restaurant Kappeli)

On the eve of All Saints' weekend, Helsinki City Museum leads a one-hour walk through the old centre telling the city's ghost stories and mysteries, from the grey lady of the City Hall to the seven ghosts of the Svenska Teatern, and asks why people tell such tales at all. It starts in the attic of the Sederholm house, up steep stairs, and ends at Restaurant Kappeli, where you can stay over a drink at your own cost. Guided in Finnish, €13; tickets sell out, so book ahead. Costumes are welcome but not required. «Pyhäinpäivän aaton kummituskävely» Starts 17:00, ends about 18:00. How to go alone

Five steps for your first time

  1. Pick one event, not five. Choose something with a host and a start time, such as "Finnish language café at Oodi library".
  2. Check the details on the official page, since schedules and prices change.
  3. Arrive ten minutes early and tell the host you came alone. Hosts usually seat or introduce newcomers.
  4. Ask people how they found the event. Stay for the first hour, then leave or stay as you like.
  5. Go a second time. Familiar faces turn a first outing into a routine. In Meet & Mint you can see who else is going.

Questions people ask

Where do people in Helsinki meet without swiping?

Pick an activity rather than a venue. Helsinki has 120 listed events (social, learning, music); start with "Finnish language café at Oodi library" and "Nordic Language Café at Nordic Culture Point, Helsinki" and go twice.

Is it weird to go to an event alone in Helsinki?

No. Many of the formats we list, such as language cafés and game nights, are designed for people who arrive alone, and hosts expect newcomers. Tell the host you are new and they will usually introduce you.

Are these dating events in Helsinki?

They are group activities, not dating events. You go for the activity and the company; any romance is a side effect we cannot promise.

Does meeting people in Helsinki cost money?

Often not. 116 of 120 listed events in Helsinki are free (17 within 30 days). Paid formats such as padel sessions or board-game cafés state the price on their page.

I'm new to Helsinki and shy. Where do I start?

Pick something where you do things rather than only talk, such as a game night or a guided walk. Commit to one hour. In Meet & Mint you can chat with the group before you arrive, which makes the first minutes easier.
