Krampus parade through the old town of Freistadt (free)

In the walled medieval town of Freistadt in the Mühlviertel, 28 Krampus clubs with more than 400 masked, fur-clad performers gather at the Linzer Tor and run through the Eisengasse and Pfarrgasse up to a show stage on the Hauptplatz. The wild Alpine figures, lights and drums make for a spectacular pre-Advent evening, and huts run by local pubs and clubs serve hot drinks and food along the route.
