Tapiola Library's monthly book club meets to discuss one chosen novel, and January's title is the Finnish translation of J. M. Coetzee's The Childhood of Jesus. Evening book club in Finnish at Lippulaiva library, Espoo
The Lippulaiva library in Espoonlahti runs a monthly Wednesday-evening book club in the small Hytti meeting room, led by head library pedagogue Mikko Airaksinen. The rules are generous: anyone can join mid-season, you may come even if you have not finished the book, or finished it and hated it. Recent choices ranged from Jon Fosse's «Aamu ja ilta» to Deborah Levy's «Kuumaa maitoa»; ask the library which title is up for January. Discussion is in Finnish, which makes it good practice for advanced learners. Free, no registration; reserve the book yourself in advance. «Book club in Finnish» Starts 18:00, ends about 19:30. How it works
A month of evenings out in Espoo: how it works
- Pick one regular thing a week, such as a run club on Wednesday or a game night on Friday. A fixed slot is easier to keep than a plan.
- Open the official page and check the date, time and price; January schedules shift after the holidays.
- Open Meet & Mint to see who else is going and say hi in the event chat. Many of the events on our sites are also in the app.
- Order what you like. Use the phrases above if it helps; nobody at a quiz or a run-club coffee is counting.
