Dry January · Rouen

Dry January in Rouen, and still out of the house.

8 listings in Rouen where the evening is about something other than the drink: library and book-club events. Pubs and bars stay listed everywhere else on the site.

The numbers we can source. Alcohol Change UK, the charity behind Dry January, reports 215,000 participants in 2024 and 200,000 in 2025 on its own campaign page; sign-up for 2027 had not been announced when we checked on 20 October 2026. That counts people who signed up with the charity, not everyone who skips a drink in January. Alcohol Change UK ↗

This page only adds a view. Bars, pubs and every other listing stay exactly where they are on Come Alone. Dry January, Damp January (drinking less) or neither: all fine.

Hacking in the movies talk, Parment Library, Rouen

Bibliothèque Parment

On Tuesday 5 January the Parment library in Rouen runs a session in its Déclics series about digital culture, this time on hacking as shown in films, series and books. The talk looks at how fiction often bends real events to serve a story, creating an image of computer piracy that can be far from reality. Through these portrayals the organisers want to show what hacking really is, how society sees it and what it says about our relationship with technology. Admission is free, with registration through the library's page. The session is in French. It starts at 14:00 and ends at 15:30, an accessible afternoon discussion for anyone curious about cinema and technology, whether you come alone or with friends. «Déclics - Hacking au cinéma» Starts 14:00, ends about 15:30. French conversation workshop, Parment Library, Rouen

Bibliothèque Parment

On Thursday 7 January at 10:00 the Parment library in Rouen, on allée Eugène Delacroix, holds one of its conversation workshops in French. The invitation is aimed at people who are learning the language: if you are learning French, this meeting is for you. The idea is simply to come and talk over a tea or a coffee, and the listing stresses that all levels are welcome, so a complete beginner can sit next to someone who is nearly fluent. The workshop is free, but it is held on registration, and the Rouen libraries' agenda page has the booking link. The session is in French, and it runs from 10:00 to 11:00. A conversation circle with a hot drink is a low-pressure way to practise and to meet other newcomers and locals, and since everybody is there to talk, arriving alone is the normal way to join. It also fits a dry-January morning. «Ateliers de conversation en français» Starts 10:00, ends about 11:00. Source: OpenAgenda — Rouen Bibliothèques (open data).

Bibliothèque Madeleine-Riffaud

On Friday 22 January at 14:00 the Madeleine-Riffaud library in Rouen holds a French and crochet workshop. Entry is free but registration is required through the library's agenda page, and the listing is in French. The session starts at 14:00 and ends at about 15:00, a relaxed hour for meeting new people over a shared craft. «Atelier français et crochet» Starts 14:00, ends about 15:00. How it works

A month of evenings out in Rouen: how it works

  1. Pick one regular thing a week, such as a run club on Wednesday or a game night on Friday. A fixed slot is easier to keep than a plan.
  2. Open the official page and check the date, time and price; January schedules shift after the holidays.
  3. Open Meet & Mint to see who else is going and say hi in the event chat. Many of the events on our sites are also in the app.
  4. Order what you like. Use the phrases above if it helps; nobody at a quiz or a run-club coffee is counting.
