Come Alone by Meet & Mint Events you can go to on your own

New Year's Eve alone · Espoo

New Year’s Eve alone in Espoo, without the pressure.

3 things you can walk into on your own in Espoo between 27 December and 6 January, plus a plan you write in plain text.

The honest number. In a survey of 3,000 Americans run by Sunny and reported by the New York Post (December 2025), only 24% wanted to celebrate New Year’s Eve with other people, 35% planned to stream a show and 20% to go to bed early; 36% of Gen Z wanted to go out. It is one US survey, not a measure of your city, but it matches what this page does: it does not push a midnight club. Source ↗

New Year’s Day morning, the easy first plan

A walk, a swim or a slow brunch on 1 January has no countdown and no dress code: you only need a start time. Events are listed below when our data has them. Some parkrun locations hold an extra run on 1 January in some years; each location’s organisers decide, and we have not confirmed which will do so in 2027. Check your local parkrun page, or see this fan-maintained list of parkrun special event days (2026 edition) ↗ for how it has worked.

Open silent meditation group at Lippulaiva Library, Espoo

Lippulaiva Library (group room Kajuutta or the stage area)

A quiet start to the Sunday after Christmas: an open, non-sectarian group simply sits together in silence for 45 minutes, then stays a little to catch up. It is not therapy, discussion or teaching, and any style is fine; the library has chairs and some cushions, or bring your own. You meet right after opening in the group room Kajuutta or the stage area next to it, with the normal library life around you. Free. «An open meditation group» Starts 10:00, ends about 11:00. Finnish-Language Book Club at Lippulaiva Library

Lippulaiva library

Lippulaiva Library's book club meets to talk about the title chosen for the session, and this time it is the Finnish translation of Deborah Levy's novel Hot Milk. You are welcome whether you finished it or simply meant to read it. The discussion is in Finnish and free, and a shared book gives strangers an instant topic of conversation.

Finnish-Language Book Club at Tapiola Library: Coetzee

Tapiola Library

Tapiola Library's monthly book club meets to discuss one chosen novel, and January's title is the Finnish translation of J. M. Coetzee's The Childhood of Jesus. The conversation is held in Finnish and is free to join. A book club gives you a ready-made topic, which makes the first conversation with new people easy.

Three levels

Pick the pressure you want

  1. Early evening, before 21:00. A table booked for one, a film, a game night, a concert with a printed start time. Home before the loud part.
  2. Midnight among people. A public countdown or fireworks where nobody expects you to talk. Arrive early, stand near the edge, decide the way home before you go.
  3. The first morning. Skip the night, set an alarm for 1 January: a walk, a swim or brunch, with a start time.
