Perchten night with a big fireworks show, Steinbach an der Steyr
An old Upper Austrian winter custom at full volume: on the last 'Rauhnacht' the Perchten, in shaggy furs and carved masks, run through the village square to drive out the bad spirits, and a brush of their horsetails is said to bring luck and health. Warm-up from 17:00, the Perchten run at 18:30, then a big fireworks display and a party in the Perchten tent from 20:30. Free entry; a fine evening to join the crowd on your own. Tip from the organisers: arrive on the Steyrtal heritage railway. «Steinbacher Perchtenraunacht mit Großfeuerwerk» Starts 17:00, ends about 23:45. Daten: Österreich Werbung / tourdata.at (CC BY 4.0).
